Gone in Tompkins Square Park - March 8, 2007

Thank you to Alanna (aka Elevator Lady)

Cemetery Chest - November 13, 2006

Cemetery chest, I know you tried your best to separate the living and the dead.
But you buried me too early and now I'm just a voice inside your head, reading letters from the dead.
So kiss me sober before this world spins and tumbles over.
We all fall down and kiss the ground.

Your willow tree, how it weeps, having hung the innocent.
It bends its limbs and rejects its job of making puppets out of men, dancing in the wind of your whim.
So hold me closer before this fire burns and the night gets colder.
We all fall down and kiss the ground.

We all must learn to love what we have to lose: this life.

Shaving Time - June 15, 2006

Last night I shaved for the first time in a while. I was in denial of time passing. I avoided mirrors because I would have to see that I had actually grown a full beard since I had last shaved.

Was there some part of me that really believed that in delaying this regular ritual, this marker of time's passage, I could delay time itself. I see it in so many people, I laugh at it sometimes, the way we all fantasize that stopping all of our clocks would somehow stop the sun from rising and setting.

I can't believe that we are so close to this release party. With it I must say "Goodbye" to this whole project, to all this work. With this I am now, in this very moment, delighted. What good is a feast if it never leaves the kitchen?

In the end, that is what I love- the work, the shaving, the cooking- the process itself. Everything else is just packaging.

This release is going to be wonderful. I hope you are all a little hungry.

Writing - June 12, 2006

Writing

Often, sitting at my desk,
I see myself falling forward,
Exhausted,

Falling eye to fountain pen, then
Without depth in my vision,
Forever seeing ink.
